SULEICA Data Files
Each zipped SULEICA file will yeild four files when unzipped. A file is created for each of four ion species, H+, He++, He+, and O+. The file names contain the following information:
Species P = H+ (protons) A = He++ (alphas) H = He+ O = O+ yr Single digit year in the 1980s mo 2-digit month da 2-digit day hr 2-digit hour in which the data started.
For example, the file
P4092612.1
contains proton data for September 26, 1984, starting somewhere in hour 12.
Data File Contents
The top line is a header giving the names for each item. If the number of energy steps measured by the instrument changes during a file, the number of columns of data changes. In this case, a second header line is inserted in the file. Depending on how you are reading the file, you may need to edit it first to make files with consistent numbers of columns. The file is designed to be readable (including names) by standard speadsheet/plotting programs and has been tested on a Macintosh with Excel, Kaleidagraph and Igor.
Each line contains the following contents, and the items are tab-delineated.
Start time Start time of the data point, in DA/MO/YR HR:MN:SS format DT Time for the full energy range to be measured. This is equal to the number of energy steps times the spin rate, so it changes when the number of energy steps changes. Xgse Spacecraft location in GSE coordinates, in Re Ygse " Zgse " R " Magnetic Latitude " (in degrees) Magnetic Local time " (in decimal hours) Flux(Energy Step) The particle differential flux in 1/(cm2-s-ster-keV/e) for each energy measuredby the instrument. The header gives the energy, in keV. Note that the number of energy steps is mode dependent, so these columns can be different in different files.
The standard energy range covered is 10-226 keV/e. However, because of background contamination, He+ and O+ fluxes are only reliable starting at 40 keV/e. Therefore, only energy steps greater than or equal to 40 keV/e are included for these two species.
